Ireland I – Ubiquitous Madonna Figures

I’ve decided to add comments to the pictures – and continue this series. I just hope that I still be able to recall the details of my trip to the Republic of Ireland in October 08.

This unusually tall figure emanates so much tranquility and a kind of solemn hope

Pretty modern, reminds me of those Tiffany-lamps. Actually, this scene is just a detail of an absolutely huge piece of art.

Her facial expression is rather defiant, a stark contrast to the carefree gesture of the child.

The placement of this statue is somewhat reminiscent of pagan idols. Coincidence?

I just love the awkward placement of this figure in the window of a shop that sells Christian books and devotionals as well as exchanges money (really!).
