>>The Tell-Tale Verse<<

The Tell-Tale Verse
Feet on the ground,
still I’m falling down, down
the memory lane
where I might find refuge among
what I readily chose to abandon

Thrashing in my sleep,
with dreams so sweet, sweet
scented lies
nestling deep beneath the skin,
like battered spectres hiding their sin

Comfort in vertigo
thoughts twirling round, round
the figurative bend
perhaps I was right all along
that the past will never be gone

Nothing to fear
hear my heart pound, pound
at my sanity
so tear up the planks at last
and lay bare what I can’t grasp

[A quasi-hommage to Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart”.]
